BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University two-time All-OAC junior wrestler Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) is competing at the 51st annual National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic on Saturday, November 5 inside the Wolstein Center on the Cleveland State University campus.
Maclellan will square off against Lake Erie College senior Evan Rosborough in the 197-pound in one of 10 exhibition matches that begin at 6 p.m.
"The NWCA All-Star Classic features some of the best wrestlers in the nation and having an individual represent BW is proof that our program is moving to the next caliber," proclaimed sixth year Head Coach Jamie Gibbs. "Tyler has progressed over the past two years and has earned the right to compete at a big event like this. I look forward to watching him perform."
Maclellan is coming off of a strong 2015-16 campaign as he earned All-OAC honors and was named a NWCA Scholar All-American for the second consecutive season. He finished second at the 2016 NCAA Mideast Regional Tournament with a 3-1 record earning the right to wrestle at the NCAA National Tournament. Maclellan finished the year with a 27-15 record.
"I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to represent Baldwin Wallace on this big stage," said Maclellan. "After my last match at nationals I have been chomping at the bit to get back out on the mat and compete."
Maclellan and the Yellow Jackets open the 2016-17 season on Thursday, November 10 when they travel to Adrian, Michigan to wrestle Adrian College in a non-conference dual match inside the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center at 7 p.m.
