No. 20 Wrestling Team Wins Three Matches at Gator “Boots” Duals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 20th-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team went undefeated with a record of 3-0 at the Gator "Boots" Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College at McGavock High School. 

BW (9-2) opened the duals with a 34-12 victory against Olivet (Mich.) College.  The Yellow Jackets then defeated Millikin (Ill.) University by a score of 36-12 in their second match.  BW closed out the duals with a 33-9 victory against Loras (Iowa) College.

Against Olivet, BW got four victories by pinfall from junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference wrestler Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.), sophomores Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) and Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) as well as freshman Charlie Nash (Norwalk).  Burke, who is this week's OAC Wrestler of the Week, pinned his opponent at 157-pounds in just 54 seconds.  Arroyo picked up the pinfall victory in a mere 18 seconds at 165-pounds.  Lehman picked up the pinfall victory in a time of 4:56 at 184-pounds.  Nash earned the win at 133-pounds with a pin at 6:07.  The Yellow Jackets also got a major decision from senior Graham Montague (Independence) at 174-pounds by a score of 15-5.  BW rounded out its scoring with decisions from junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC performer Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and junior All-OAC wrestler Chris Doyle (Akron/Green).  MacLellan won his match at 197-pounds by a score of 7-4 while Doyle took home the win at 125-pounds by a count of 5-2. 

In the match with Millikin, the Yellow Jackets picked up five wins by pinfall from Doyle, Nash, Burke, Arroyo and MaclellanDoyle pinned his opponent at 125-pounds in a time of 2:43. Nash picked up the pinfall at 133-pounds in a time of 2:46.  Burke secured the win as he pinned his opponent at 157-pounds in a time of 3:11. Arroyo earned the victory at 165-pounds in just 57 seconds.  Maclellan pinned his opponent at 197-pounds in a time of 4:46. BW also got decision victories from Montague and junior Academic All-OAC performer Andrew Sierawski (Delaware/Hayes).  Montague won his match at 174-pounds by a score of 9-6 while Sierawski took home the win at 285-pounds by a count of 6-2.  

Against Loras, the Yellow Jackets earned four victories by pinfall from Doyle, Arroyo, junior Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) and Sierawski.   Doyle pinned his opponent at 125-pounds in a time of 2:43. Arroyo earned his third pin of the day at 165-pounds in a time of 1:43.  Rathburn picked up the pin at 184-pounds in a time of 4:37.  Sierawski pinned his opponent at 285-pounds in a time of 1:53.  BW also got wins by decision from seniors Patt McGinnis (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) and Josh Decatur (Akron/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) as well as MontagueMcGinnis earned the victory at 141-pounds by a score of 6-1.  Decatur took home the win at 149-pounds by a score of 10-8. Montague won by a score of 3-2 at 174 pounds. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday and Friday, January 5-6, 2017 when they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.  Action is slated to begin at 8 a.m. on both days.
