Burke Garners Second Career OAC Wrestler of the Week Honor

UNIONTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference wrestler Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.) has been named the OAC Wrestler of the Week for the second time in his career.

Burke, who earned his first OAC Wrestler of the Week honor on February 22, 2015, led to the No. 20-nationally ranked BW wrestling team to a 3-0 record at the Waynesburg (Pa.) Duals on Saturday.

Burke won all three of his bouts in the 157-pound weight class. He won his first match versus 16-nationally ranked York (Pa.) College by a 5-2 decision, earned a 9-7 decision against The Apprentice School (Va.) and pinned his opponent in the Waynesburg match at the 24 second mark. With the three wins Burke improves to 5-2 this year with four pins.

In two seasons, Burke has compiled a 31-19 record with 16 pins and three technical falls. He was also named a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America a year ago.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, December 17 when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee for the Gator "Boots" Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College. BW squares off against Loras (Iowa) College at 8 a.m., Milliken (Ill.) University at 9:45 a.m., Loras at 11:30 a.m. and Luther at 1:15 p.m.
