Baldwin Wallace Women Win Mount Union Spring Golf Invitational

ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team fired a team total of 341 strokes today (Sunday, March 27) on the final day of the University of Mount Union Spring Invitational at Tannenhauf Golf Club to win the first tournament of the 2011 spring season.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets had a 679-stroke total for the two rounds of play on the par-72 and 6,189-yard Tannenhauf G.C. layout.  BW had a 338-stroke total in the first round on Saturday.  BW's 679-stroke total bested second place Otterbein University by 12  strokes.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) who shot rounds of 82 and 85 for a 36-hole total of 167 strokes and place fourth individually of 48 golfers. In addition, sophomore Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) was second on the team and fired rounds of 89 and 81 for a total of 170 strokes to place sixth. Next was sophomore Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) with rounds of 84 and 88 for a 172-stroke total to tie for eighth. Freshman Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) had rounds of 84 and 90 for a 174 total to finish 10th. Freshman Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Dayton Christian) rounded out the starting lineup with rounds of 88 and 87 for a 175-stroke total to tie for 11th.

Playing as individuals, freshman Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) shot rounds of 97 and 86 for a 183-stroke total to place in a tie for 18th, senior Nicole Carlone (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) had rounds of 100 and 95 for a 195 total to place 30th and sophomore Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy)shot rounds of 98 and 101 to finish at 199 strokes and place 35th.

This was the second overall outing for the Yellow Jackets, who traveled to Pinehurst, North Carolina from March 5-12, and played and beat Ohio Athletic Conference-rival Mount Union in a dual match on March 7.

Last fall, the BW women played in six tournaments and 10 rounds of 18 holes with Woolf leading the squad to a 53-14 record with two invitational titles.  Woolf had an 82.75-stroke average and was the medalist and led BW to the title of the Grove City College of Pennsylvania Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Friday and Saturday, April 1-2 when they travel to Lockbourne, Ohio to participate in the annual Capital University Purple and White Invitational Tournament at the Foxfire Golf and Country Club.  Tee times are not available at the present time.
