BW Women's Golf Team Captures Team Title at Capital to End an Outstanding Week

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team finished first of 10 teams today (Sunday, September 26, 2010) at the Capital University Purple & White Tournament at the Phoenix Links Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio.  The finish ended a strong week for the Yellow Jackets as they won yesterday's six-team Grove City College of Pennsylvania Invitational Tournament.

In addition, the finish at Capital extends a strong fall in which BW has compiled a 36-4 overall record, placed first at Capital and at Grove City and third at its own 12-team tournament and third at the Sept. 18-19 Mercyhurst (Pa.) College event in which the youthful Yellow Jackets bettered seven NCAA Division II teams.

"It's not every day that you an win two tournament championships in two days in two separate states and both in cities named Grove City," said a smiling and jubilant Interim Head Coach Wayne Schneider. "The women played very well and we are extremely proud of all of them."

"We played well again today, and that was exciting," continued Schneider. "Two women, senior Nicole Carlone (Canton/St. Thomas Aquinas) and sophomore Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) each had their career-low round.  That is wonderful for each of them."

Today, the Yellow Jacket "A" team carded a total of 338 strokes and beat second place and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University by 10 shots.  The women were led by freshman Emilee Woolf (Ravenna/ Senior) who carded an 83 on the par-72 and 5,834-yard Phoenix Links course. Woolf was joined by sophomore Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) at 83, Kapusta with a career-low round of 84,  freshman Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Dayton Christian) with an 88 and freshman Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) with a 90.

In addition, the Yellow Jacket "B" team shot a total of 375 strokes to place sixth as a team and beat four other schools "A" teams.  Carlone led the "B" team with a career-low 88 and was followed by freshmanMiranda Rockich (Akron/ Green) with a 93, freshman Mary Crisafio (Pittsburgh, Pa./ The Linsly School)with a 96, senior Diana Han (Curitiba, BRAZIL) with a 98 and freshman Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) had a 104.
