Baldwin Wallace Women's Golf Team Stands Third After First Day of Heidelberg Tournament

TIFFIN, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team currently stands third of eight schools today (Thursday, April 21, 2011) after the first day of the Heidelberg University Invitational Tournament at the Mohawk Golf Club in Tiffin.  The final round will be played tomorrow, Friday, April 22 with tee-offs beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The Yellow Jackets fired a 354-stroke first day total on the par-72, and 6,000-yard Mohawk G.C. layout to record the best team score by an NCAA Division III school, including eight strokes better than Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University.  BW is currently 29 strokes behind first place Bethel (Ind.) College and 19-strokes behind second place St. Francis (Ind.) University, both NAIA schools.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) who fired a first round score of 82, and is currently tied in fifth place individually. Senior captain Nicole Carlone (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) and freshman Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) each had rounds of 87.  Playing as an individual, Carlone's 87 is a career-best. She and Woolf are tied for 15th individually.  Freshman Rebecca Jones (Hillard/ Darby) finished the first round with a 92 and is tied for 22nd overall, sophomore  Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) followed with a 93 and is tied for 24th, and freshman Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) rounded out the starting lineup with a 96.

In addition to Carlone and playing as individuals, freshman Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) posted a first round score of 98 and sophomore Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) had a 116.

This is the final regular season tournament for the Yellow Jackets. The 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament takes place next weekend, on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance with the University of Mount Union serving as the host school.  The winner of the OAC Tournament receives an automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Tournament in Florida later in May.
