Baldwin Wallace University Women's Golf Team Stands 15th After Day Three of NCAA Tournament

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLORIDA -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team stands 15th of 19 teams after the third day (Thursday, May 12) of the four-day and 72-hole 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The fourth and final round is tomorrow.

The Yellow Jackets, 83-18 during the regular season with five tournament titles (in 11 events), including the Ohio Athletic Conference title last weekend, carded a 350-stroke total to go with its first two rounds of 358 and 340 for a three-day and 54-hole total of 1,048 strokes. BW is three shots back of 14th place and 24 shots shy of 13th. The Yellow Jacket squad consists of three freshmen and two sophomores.

In collegiate golf, each team consists of five players with the four best scores counting toward the team total.

In the third round, sophomore No.1 player Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) and freshman No. 2 player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) led the way as each shot an 86 on the par-73 and 5,884-yard El Campeon course layout. After three rounds, Woolf is second on the team at 260 strokes and is tied for 54th individually and Hamilton is third at 266 and tied for 71st. The 86 today for Hamilton and Woolf was the best round of the tournament for both golfers.

Sophomore No.4 player Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) recorded an 88 today and after three rounds is the team leader at 257 strokes, which ties her for 44th as an individual. Freshman No.5 player Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) fired a 90 for her best round of the tournament thus far. Jones is 93rd overall and has a three-day total of 287 strokes. In addition, freshman No.3 player Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) rounded out the day with a 97 and sits at a three-day total of 272, good for a tie for 84th.

This is the third time that the BW women's program has qualified for the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The first two appearances were in 2000 (seventh place) and 2001 (10th place).  The OAC title this spring was BW's third.

BW will tee off beginning at 8:50 a.m. tomorrow on the 10th tee.
