BW Women's Golf Opens Season With Third Place Showing at Yellow Jacket Invite

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team finished third of 12 participating teams after the second and final day (Sunday, September 12, 2010) of the 36-hole Yellow Jacket Invitational Tournament at the Sweetbriar Golf Club in Avon Lake, Ohio.


The Yellow Jackets carded a first-round score of 344 and a second-round of 340 to finish at 684 for the tournament. The Yellow Jackets two-day score average of 342 was 57.75 strokes better than last year's average of 399.75. BW's best round last year was 376.

Allegheny College won the team title and Kristine Khowcharoen of Hiram College was the tournament medalist (74+76=150) on the par-70, 6,015 yard Sweetbriar course layout.

Leading the way for the BW "A" team on day one, freshman Sarah Allred (Akron/Green) finished with an 18-round total of 82 strokes.  Freshmen Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/Christian) and Emilee Woolf (Ravenna/Senior) carded scores of 87 while freshman Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/Darby) shot an 88. Rounding out the A team, sophomore Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) shot an 89.

Leading the way for the BW B-team on day one, freshman Miranda Rockich (Akron/Green) carded an 18-round total of 80, which was also the low score of the day for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) carded a score of 86 while senior Nicole Carlone (Canton/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished the day with a 93.  Sophomores Emily Eighmy (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy)and Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) both shot a 103 on the day to round out the B team.

Individually on day one, senior Diana Han (Curitiba, Brazil) carded an 18-round total of 100 for the day.

On day two for the BW "A" team, Woolf carded a score of 82 and tied for 12th place individually with a 36-round total of 169.  Cunningham shot a 84 for a total of 171, Jones shot a 87 for a total of 175, and Kapustarecorded a 87 on the day for a total of 176.  Rounding out the team, Allred carded a 97 for a total of 179.

For the BW "B" team on day two, Rockich carded a 89 for a total of 169 strokes which was good to tie for 12th place individually with teammate Woolf.  Hamilton shot an 87 for a total of 173, Carlone shot a 102 for a total of 195, and Terrill shot a 98 on the day for a two-day total of 201.  Rounding off the team was Eighmywho carded a 104 for a 36-round total of 207.

Individually on day two, Han carded an 18-round total of 101 for the day giving her a two-day total of 201.

Up next for the Yellow Jackets is the John Carroll Invitational at Fowlers Mill Golf Course on Saturday September 18-19.
