Women’s Basketball Improves to No. 11 in WBCA Top-25 Poll

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball jumped four spots on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top-25 national poll, landing at No. 11.

The Yellow Jackets, who were slated at No. 15 in the WBCA preseason poll, have started the 2022-23 campaign with four straight wins. BW began the year facing No. 2 nationally ranked Trine (Ind.) University, a team who was in the NCAA Division III Final Four last season. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Thunder in Ursprung Gymnasium in double overtime by a final score of 75-70.

BW then hosted crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University for another non-conference matchup, beating the Spartans by an 81-58 final. The Yellow Jackets traveled to Springfield to take on Wittenberg University and Hanover (Ind.) College for two games in the Pam Evans Smith Arena, going 2-0 on the weekend. BW beat the Tigers by a 56-43 final score and HC by a final score of 71-48.

As a team this year, the Yellow Jackets have shot 41.6% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc, averaging 70.8 points per game. BW has outrebounded its opponents by a 10.0 margin and outscored its opponents by an average of 16 points per game.

BW is accompanied on the poll by OAC rival John Carroll University as the Blue Streaks fell one spot to No. 23. 

The Yellow Jackets return to play on Tuesday, November 22 as they travel to Pittsburgh to face the La Roche (Pa.) University Redhawks in the last preseason non-conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. on Coach Scott Lang Court.
