SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The No. 12 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team faced Hanover (Ind.) College on day two of the Wittenberg Invitational inside the Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Yellow Jackets extended their win streak to four after taking down the Panthers by a 71-48 final score.
BW (4-0) was led by sophomore guard Emily Irwin's (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) career-high 19 points, shooting 4-7 beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) notched her second career double-double as she recorded a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Carolyn Wochele (Mentor) had an all-around great performance, totaling a career-high eight assists and added five points and five rebounds.
Hanover (2-1) was led by junior guard Taylor Heath as she totaled 11 points.
First Half
- The BW scoring was kicked off by graduate guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) as she hit a shot from deep, and she totaled eight points and five boards on the day
- The Yellow Jackets got out to a hot 10-1 advantage in the first quarter before the Panthers chipped away to bring the game within one point
- BW ended the first quarter with a 14-9 advantage
- A three from Ressler jump-started a 10-3 run for BW, holding the Panthers scoreless for nearly four minutes in the second
- The Yellow Jackets closed out the first half with a ten-point lead (34-24)
Second Half
- Back-to-back three pointers by Irwin out of the half separated the Yellow Jackets from the Panthers with a 40-25 advantage
- Keeping the pressure on the Panthers, BW earned a 20-point lead with 6:34 left in the fourth quarter after three pointers by Ressler and Irwin (63-43)
- BW outscored the Panthers 8-5 to clinch the non-conference win, 71-48
The Yellow Jackets return to the court on Tuesday, November 22, taking on the La Roche (Pa.) University Redhawks. The non-conference game in Pittsburgh is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. on the Coach Scott Lang Court.
