BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team jumped to No. 8 in both the D3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top-25 national polls.

The Yellow Jackets, who were slated at No. 10 in last week's polls, put together a 2-0 record last week to improve the team's national ranking to No. 8. BW went 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play with wins over Heidelberg University (54-41) and Wilmington College (67-58).

In the win over Heidelberg, junior forward Sylvie Sonneman (Jamestown/Greenview) led the Yellow Jackets, tying her career-high, totaling 14 points, two steals, and two rebounds. Sophomore forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) notched her second double-double of the year, posting 13 points and 10 rebounds. In the win over Wilmington, sophomore guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) led the way with 18 points, shooting 4-7 from the field and 9-12 from the charity stripe. Vaillant also finished with 13 points, all scored in the second half, and added six rebounds.

BW moves to 7-0 on the season and starts OAC play, 2-0. The Yellow Jackets have also earned wins over No. 2 Trine (Ind.) University, Case Western Reserve University, Wittenberg University, Hanover (Ind.) College, and La Roche (Pa.) University.

BW is accompanied on the WBCA poll by Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University, slated at No. 21.

The Yellow Jackets return to play on Saturday, December 10 as they travel to Marietta to take on the Marietta College Pioneers in a big OAC matchup in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. inside the Ban Johnson Arena.
