BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team improved in both the D3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top-25 national polls, landing at No. 10.

The Yellow Jackets, who were slated at No. 12 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll and No. 11 in last week's WBCA poll, have started the 2022-23 campaign with five straight wins. Since the first D3hoops.com poll, BW has put together team wins over ranked opponent Trine (Ind.) University, Case Western Reserve University, Wittenberg University, and Hanover (Ind.) College.

Just last week the Yellow Jackets traveled to Pittsburgh to take on La Roche (Pa.) University to complete their perfect record in the preseason. BW defeated the Redhawks by a 68-44 final score. Sophomore guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) and sophomore forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) had double-digit performances and 12 Yellow Jackets put points on the board.

As a team this year, the Yellow Jackets have shot 41.5% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc, averaging 70.2 points per game. BW has outrebounded its opponents by a 10.2 margin and outscored its opponents by an average of 17.6 points per game.

BW is accompanied on the WBCA poll by Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University as it dropped one spot to No. 24.

The Yellow Jackets return to play on Wednesday, November 30 as they host Heidelberg University in the 2022-23 OAC opener. Tip-off against the Student Princes is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
