Men's Soccer Scores Season-High Seven Goals in Rout of Pitt.-Greensburg

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals en route to a lopsided 7-0 non-conference victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (Pa.) on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium.

With the win against Pitt.-Greensburg (2-7), BW (7-4) earned their second shutout win in a row, wrapping up their slate of non-conference matches.

The Yellow Jackets exploded for five goals in the first half, claiming a sizeable scoring gap that would last for the rest of the game. At the 11th minute, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference, Academic All-OAC, and CoSIDA Academic All-American forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) added to his NCAA Division III leading goal total with his 15th goal of the season, from a squeeze pass by sophomore midfielder Dylan Keeling (Rocky River) inside the box. In the 13th minute, senior forward Joey Geither scored his fourth goal of the year by tapping in a cross from freshman midfielder Brandon Garibotti (Berea/Berea-Midpark) into an open net. Freshman midfielder Kyle Eddy (Lewis Center/Olentangy) headered in his first collegiate goal off a cross from junior midfielder David Quayle (Avon/Lutheran West) in the 34th minute to give BW the 3-0 lead. Next, freshman forward Jared Webb (Southfield, Mich./Brother Rice) scored his third and fourth goals of the season within a span of 42 seconds. His first goal came in the 41st minute off a feed from Eddy that he subsequently chipped by the attacking Bobcat keeper. The latter featured a blocked passed attempt from the Pitt.-Greensburg keeper that bounced off of Webb and into the open net. The Yellow Jackets headed to the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.

BW continued the offensive onslaught in the second half with another two goals. First, in the 59th minute, freshman midfielder Andras Fabian (Hinckley/Highland) scored his third goal of the season on a ricocheted cross from freshman midfielder John Tascar (North Royalton/Brecksville). Tascar then responded with a goal of his own in the 68th minute. His strike from 25 yards out found the top right corner of the net for his first ever collegiate goal. Eddy picked up his second assist and fourth point of the game on the goal.

Three Yellow Jackets keepers appeared in tonight's game, two of which logging their first ever collegiate minutes. Senior goalkeeper Patrick Mehal played 45 minutes and started in net for BW, making one save and allowing no goals, improving his season record to 7-4 with the victory. Freshman and junior goalkeepers JT Brenneman and Nate Shepard split the second half with roughly 22:30 of playing time apiece. In their first glimpse of action for the Yellow Jackets, Brenneman allowed no goals on two shots faced, and Shepard did the same but encountered one shot on goal. All three keepers earned the combined shutout win.

BW will begin conference play on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Bexley to take on Capital University at 7:00 p.m. in Bernlohr Stadium.
