OBERLIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team fell to nearby Oberlin College in the closing moments of regulation by a final score 2-1 on Fred Shults Field.

BW (4-3) entered tonight's game against Oberlin (3-4) seeking their first three-game win streak of the season.

The Yellow Jackets were able to apply some early offensive pressure in the first half, firing six shots to Oberlin's five. However, only one of those shots was able to hit on target. The BW defense was able to provide support on the back end, as they minimized Yeomen scoring opportunities to keep the game scoreless headed to break.

Senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-American Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark), who came into today's contest tied for third place in all of NCAA Men's Division III Soccer with nine goals on the year, scored his tenth in the 69th minute of the game to put BW up 1-0. The goal was assisted by senior forward Joey Geither (Parma/Nomandy) and freshman midfielder Brandon Garibotti (Berea/Berea-Midpark). The Yellow Jackets seemed to have the momentum on their side as they neared the end of the game but Oberlin came storming back in the last six minutes with a sudden burst of offense. First, freshman Nic Jandeleit scored a timely goal to knot the game up at 1-1 in the 84th minute. Roughly one minute later, freshman Thomas Kanter scored to put the Yeoman up 2-1. The quick two goals by Oberlin ultimately decided the outcome of the game, as BW could not find the equalizer as the clock run out.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made nine saves, allowing two goals as the defeat drops his record to 4-3 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets return to the pitch on Saturday, September 21 when they take on Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a non-conference matchup at 6:00 p.m. in John F. Wiley Stadium.
