Men’s Golf Wins Gatorade Collegiate Classic

LAWRENCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team opened the 2018-19 season in striking fashion as it won the Gatorade Collegiate Classic hosted by the College of Wooster by 10 strokes at the Zoar Village Golf Course.

BW was first of eight teams with a two-day total of 582 on the par-72 and 6,730-yard Zoar Village layout. Miami University Hamilton was the runner-up.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Hunter Miller (Frankfort/Adena) as he placed second after firing rounds of 73 and a career-low 70 for a championship total of 143. Junior Jimmy Clark (North Olmsted) tied for eighth with a career-low 72 and 75 for a two-day total of 147. Freshman Roni Shin (Rocky River) carded rounds of 74 and 73 for a collegiate debut total of 147, tying for eighth place with Clark. Senior Jack Kyle (Bay Village/Bay) finished tied for 18th with a career-low round of 71 and 78 for a total of 149.  Rounding out the top five was junior Ben Ladaika (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) as he posted rounds of 76 and 74 for a two-day total of 150.

Playing as individuals were senior Brad Blaine (Brooklyn), sophomore Jared Budner (Macedonia/Nordonia) and freshmen Logan Bratsch (Olmsted Falls), Steven Newbould (Parma/Valley Forge) and Connor Thomas (Medina/Buckeye). Bratsch led the individuals with rounds of 74 and 78 for a collegiate debut total of 152. Budner fired a rounds of 79 and a career-low 77 for a two-round total of 156. Thomas posted rounds of 82 and 79 for a collegiate debut total of 161. Blaine carded rounds of 79 and 83 for a two-day total of 162. Newbould finished with rounds of 83 and 81 for a collegiate debut total of 164.

BW is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, September 8-9 when it hosts the BW Invitational at Mallard Creek Golf Club in Columbia Station.
