Shin Earns Medalist Honor, Men’s Golf Captures Third Team Title

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Freshman Roni Shin (Rocky River) earned his first career medalist honor as the Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team captured its third team title at the University of Mount Union Fall Invitational at the Tannenhauf Golf Club.

BW was first of seven teams with 594 strokes on the par-72 and 6,254-yard Tannehauf layout. Mount Union was the runner-up with 599 strokes.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Shin as he earned his medalist honor with rounds of 71 and a career-low tying 70 for an invitational total of 141.  Junior Jimmy Clark (North Olmsted) fired two rounds of 73 for a two-day total of 146.  Senior Hunter Miller (Frankfort/Adena) posted rounds of 77 and 76 for an invitational total of 153.  Junior Ben Ladaika (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) carded rounds of 76 and 78 for a two-round total of 154.  Rounding out the top five was freshmen Dylan Boff (Broadview Heights/North Royalton) as he tallied two rounds of 81 for a total of 162.

Playing as individuals were seniors Brad Blaine (Brooklyn) and Jack Kyle (Bay Village/Bay), sophomore Jared Budner (Macedonia/Nordonia) and freshmen Steven Newbould (Parma/Valley Forge) and Connor Thomas (Medina/Buckeye).   

Thomas led the individuals with identical rounds of 77 for a two-day total of 154. Blaine posted rounds of 82 and a career-low tying 77 for a two-round total of 159.   Kyle fired rounds of 78 and 82 for a two-round total of 160.  Budner carded rounds of 80 and 88 for an invitational total of 168. Rounding out the individuals was Newbould as he tallied rounds of 85 and a career-low 79 for a total of 164.

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 29 when it travels to West Lafayette to compete in the Poppa Flowers Invitational hosted by John Carroll University at the River Greens Golf Course.  The Yellow Jackets close out the fall portion of their schedule on Friday and Saturday, October 5-6 when it competes in the Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Preview hosted by Ohio Northern University at the Colonial Golfers Club.
