Baldwin Wallace University Names Jon Carroll as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

BEREA, OHIO -- Newly hired Baldwin Wallace University Men's Basketball Coach Duane Sheldon has named Jon Carroll, a 2003 BW graduate and former basketball student-athlete, as one of his two assistant coaches for the 2008-2009 season. Carroll joins longtime Yellow Jacket assistant coach Don Hershey on Sheldon's staff.

Carroll returns to his alma mater after previously working on Sheldon's staff as a graduate assistant coach at Heidelberg College from 2003-2005. While at Heidelberg, he helped Sheldon rebuild the Student Prince program into an Ohio Athletic Conference champion.  In addition to his coaching duties, Carroll obtained his Master's of Arts degree in Education from Heidelberg in the spring of 2005 and assisted in the sports information office. 

"We are pleased that Jon has accepted the opportunity to join our staff at BW," said Sheldon, a 1993  graduate of the College. "Jon is an outstanding teacher of the game of basketball, is a former All-OAC and Academic All-OAC student-athlete and has demonstrated the ability to have a solid rapport with current student-athletes. He will an asset to our basketball program."

Professionally, Carroll has worked as a fundraising consultant for Varsity Gold, a Cleveland-based company since July of 2006. At Varsity Gold, he assisted local high schools and community organizations with their fundraising needs.

As a student-athlete at BW, Carroll was a four-year letterman and two -year team captain in basketball.  He finished his career with 1,098 career points and currently ranks 25th on the all-time scoring list. Carroll also was a three-time Academic All-OAC and two-time Verizon Academic All-District IV pick (now the ESPN THE MAGAZINE team). He was an honorable mention All-OAC selection as a senior in 2002-2003.

In addition to his BW basketball exploits, Carroll interned with the Cleveland Cavaliers Media Relations Office and The Ohio State University Athletic Department before earning a bachelor's degree in sport management and business management in May of 2003.

A native of Berea, Carroll graduated from Middleburg Heights Midpark High School and played basketball for Sheldon. Carroll was a three-time All-Pioneer Conference pick and scored more than 1,200 points in his career.
