B-W Men's Basketball Team Falls to Otterbein, 78-72, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- Junior Brian Pollock scored a game-high 32 points as the Otterbein College men's basketball team defeated Baldwin Wallace University, 78-72, tonight (Wednesday, February 11, 2009) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. B-W senior center Andrew Bene (Hinckley/Medina Highland)recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

 With the loss, B-W falls to 7-15 overall and 3-12 in the OAC. Otterbein improves to 5-17 overall and 3-12 in the OAC.

 In addition to Bene for the Yellow Jackets, junior guard Louis Tumblin (Elyria/Senior) scored a season-high 23 points and freshman point guard Promis Cabbil (Elyria/Senior) totaled nine points and a season-best six assists.

 The first half saw eight lead changes in the first 7:23 of play. The Yellow Jackets led 17-16 at 13:03 when Benescored on a layup, but Otterbein moved ahead with a 6-2 run and eventually built their advantage to 29-23 with 3:56 left before the break.

The Yellow Jackets rallied with a 7-0 run that ended in a Cabbil layup at 2:20 to make the score 30-29. However, Otterbein came right back with seven quick points to go ahead 36-30. Each side hit a three-pointer over the final 34 seconds to make the score 39-33 at the break.

In the second half, B-W tied the score at 43 apiece on a Tumblin layup at 15:08 and went ahead on a Benelayup at 14:26. Otterbein quickly tied the score with two Ian Gardner free throws before the game saw six more lead changes over the next 5:10.  The Cardinals led by four, at 60-56, following two Pollock free throws before the Jackets tied the score on three separate occasions, including 68-68 with 2:44 left to play.

Otterbein was able to regain momentum and ended the game on a 10-4 run that included seven Cardinal free throws.

B-W returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 14 when it travels to New Concord, Ohio to play OAC rival Muskingum College in the Muskingum HPER Center at 3:00 p.m..
