Baldwin Wallace Has Success With "Take a Kid to the Game" and is Looking for More on February 21

BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin Wallace University and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hosted a "Take a Kid to the Game" Day on Saturday, January 17 when the Yellow Jacket women hosted and defeated Marietta College, 74-39, in the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The day was a great success for the College and the kids who attended the game.

Upon entering the gymnasium, each child with a paying adult was admitted for free. Then the grade, middle and junior high school-aged students and their parents could proceed to a prize table and sign up to participate in a halftime foul shooting "knock-out" contest for the children. Prizes included a $5 gift card to Chipotle Mexican Grill or a gift certificate to Frankie's Italian Restaurant in North Olmsted. There was also face painting with the BW cheerleaders and interaction with "Buzzy", the BW athletics mascot. Following the game, the kids could stay for an autograph session with the BW players and coaching staff.

"Thank you to everyone at BW for such a nice evening for the kids," said Amy-Jo Sutterluety . "The kids really enjoyed the event and were so excited to then come home and watch the replay on TV and see themselves!"

"All of our kids [BW players] really enjoyed the day and probably had as much fun as the children," said BW Head Coach Cheri Harrer. "I'm not quite sure who had the larger smiles on their faces. It was just a lot of fun for everyone."

"We really had a great time," said senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Amanda Mondrach, a resident of Parma Heights and a graduate of Holy Name. "The kids were so excited. We were just happy that we could play well for them and then sign their programs afterwards."

If you missed the first TAKG Day, you have another chance when the BW men's basketball team will host its own "Take a Kid to the Game" Day on Saturday, February 21 when it also hosts Marietta College at 3:00 p.m. in Berea.
