Ohio Northern Men's Basketball Team Defeats Baldwin Wallace, 76-62, in an OAC Game in Berea

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior guard Kurtis Brown scored a game-high 15 points as the Ohio Northern University men's basketball team defeated Baldwin-Wallace College, 76-62, today (Saturday, December 13, 2008) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.

 
In addition to Kurtis Brown, ONU also had junior guard Erza Bradshaw, senior center Jake Cannan and junior guard Kyle Meyer in double figures with 14, 13 and 12 points, respectively. B-W was led by senior center Andrew Bene (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
With its win, ONU improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. With its loss, B-W is now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the OAC and next plays at Mount Union College on Wednesday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m.
 
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to 3-0 lead when junior guard Louis Tumblin (Elyria/ Senior) made a three-pointer. ONU then went on a 7-0 run to lead 7-3 with 15:25 left when junior huard Erza Bradshaw made a three-pointer. ONU extended its lead to 16-8 lead at the 10:20 mark when senior guard Kurtis Brown made a basket, was fouled, but missed his free throw.  ONU extended its lead to 12 points on two separate occasions with the last being at 30-18 with 3:04 left when 6'9" freshman Scott Schnelle made a layup. The Polar Bears led at halftime, 32-25.
 
In the second half, The Polar Bears extended their lead to 12 points on two separate occassions with the last being at 64-52 with 5:17 left when Kurtis Brown made a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets then went on a 5-0 run with all five points being scored by freshman point gaurd Promis Cabill (Elyria/ Senior) to cut ONU's lead to 64-57 with 4:26 left to play. But the Polar Bears then went on an 12-5 run to build their largest lead at 14 points at 76-62 with the final score.
 
Following its game at Mt. Union, the Yellow Jackets travel to Wilmington, Ohio and play the Wilmington College Quakers on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 3:00 p.m.
