Football Blanks Capital on Community Day and Homecoming

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University football team shut out Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference Community and Family Day and Homecoming game by a final score of 51-0 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (4-1, 2-1 OAC) improves to 40-12 in the all-time series while head coach Jim Hilvert remains undefeated at 4-0 against Capital (1-3, 0-3 OAC).

Junior All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) was named the Frank Ropollo Offensive Player of the Game as he rushed for 64 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns. Senior defensive lineman Sekou Imani (Dover) was named the Dick Miller Defensive Player of the Game as he recorded three tackles, including two for a loss, an interception and two quarterback hurries.

Offensively for the Yellow Jackets, junior Academic All-OAC quarterback Keagan Armitage (Ashland) completed 6-of-9 passes for 48 yards.  Senior quarterback Jack Gibbons (Willoughby/Lake Catholic) led the ground attack with 79 yards on 10 carries.  Junior wide out Jake Novak (Oregon/Clay) led the receiving corps as he caught two passes for 27 yards.  Defensively, freshman linebacker Eddie Barch (Mayfield Heights/Mayfield) tallied a career-high six tackles.

The Comets were held scoreless for the first time this season as they were held to 215 total yards of offense on 155 yards rushing and 60 yard passing.

BW will be idle next week as it will have its bye week.  The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, October 16 when it travels to Zanesville for an OAC game against Muskingum University on John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m.  The next home game for BW is on Saturday, October 23 when teams hosts an OAC and 43rd Lee Tressel Shrine Classic game against Wilmington College at 3 p.m.
