Today's Contest

Today is the final regular season game of the 2021 fall season and the ninth Ohio Athletic Conference game for the nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University football team as it hosts crosstown rival John Carroll University on Seniors' Day, Veterans Appreciation Day and the 33rd Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy. Last week, BW picked up its eighth win of the season and its sixth straight as it held off Ohio Northern University by a final score of 17-14. John Carroll lost to Heidelberg University by a final score of 27-21 in overtime.

The Series
BW and John Carroll and Blue Streaks have met 61 times on the gridiron. The Blue Streaks leads the all-time series 31-25-4.  The series began in 1923 when John Carroll defeated BW, 19-13. Three notable names who have taken part in this series, BW graduate and College Football Hall of Famers Lee Tressel '48 and Jim Tressel '75 and John Carroll grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula.

Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy Series
John Carroll leads the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy series by a margin of 19-13, including winning eight straight. The last Yellow Jacket victory came in the 2012 season when BW posted a 32-28 victory in University Heights. The Yellow Jackets scored 15 points in the final nine minutes to rally for the victory.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert
Hilvert is in his fifth season at BW and has a record of  29-12 and OAC slate of 23-12. He is 95-38 in his 11th overall season and is 0-4 against John Carroll. 

John Carroll Head Coach Rick Finotti 
Finotti is in his fifth season at John Carroll and has a record of 32-11 and OAC mark of 31-9. He is 4-0 vs. Baldwin Wallace. 

Last Game vs. John Carroll -- March 12, 2021:
BW scored 17 points on 205 yards passing, 92 yards rushing and 297 total yards.  John Carroll scored 28 points on 134 yards passing, 89 yards rushing and 223 total yards. 

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week nine of the season, BW scored 17  on 213 yards rushing and 122 yards passing for 335 yards of total offense. Ohio Northern  scored 14 points on 159 yards passing and 92 yards rushing for 251 yards of total offense.

BW Leaders 
Offensively, junior Academic All-OAC quarterback Keagan Armitage (Ashland) has completed 83 of 129 passes for 978 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception.  Senior All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) leads the OAC in touchdowns with 17 and is second in yards with 1,034. Murray, Jr. is tied for sixth in the NCAA in touchdowns and 14th in yards. Senior wideout Darius Stokes (Canton/GlenOak) leads the receiving corps and is 10th in the OAC in yards with 487 yards on 30 catches with five touchdowns. Defensively, senior Academic All-OAC linebacker Nick Pankow (Medina) tops the team and the OAC with 78 tackles and is tied for tied for seventh in the league with 10 in tackles for loss. Senior All-OAC defensive lineman Sekou Imani (Dover) leads the team and is second in OAC in quarterback sacks with 11. Imani also leads the team and is tied for third in conference with 14 tackles for loss.

Scouting the Blue Streaks
In week eight of the season, John Carroll scored 21 points on 254 yards passing, 180 yards rushing and 434 total yards. Heidelberg scored 27, including the game-winning touchdown in overtime, on 263 yards passing, 147 yards rushing and 410 total yards. 

John Carroll Leaders
Offensively, senior All-OAC quarterback Jake Floriea has completed 181 of 282 passes for 2,234 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions.  Senior All-OAC running back Demerius Goodwin leads the ground game with 604 yards on 127 carries with six touchdowns.  Junior All-OAC wideout Brennan Fugh leads the team and is second in the OAC with 940 yards on 53 catches with seven touchdowns.  Defensively, senior All-OAC defensive back Tyshawn Jones leads the team and is 12th in the OAC with 61 tackles.

Swarm of Gold
Finnie Stadium will be turned into a Swarm of Gold as all Yellow Jackets fans are asked to wear gold in support of the team.

Terrorizing the Backfield
Imani has been terrorizing offenses the past four weeks.  The senior All-OAC defensive end has been virtually unblockable has recorded 15 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss 11 sacks ,forced three fumbles and recovered one fumble and broke up one pass in that span.

Rushing Towards Records
Murray, Jr. is rushing his way into the record books at BW.  The senior All-OAC running back is 20 yards away from setting the career rushing mark of 2,658.  Murray, Jr. needs five touchdowns to set the career touchdown record of 40 and needs four touchdowns to set the single season record with 21.

Playoff Picture 
The NCAA Division III National Playoffs are set to begin on November 20 at 12 p.m.  The 32-team playoff is made up of 27 automatic conference winners followed by five at-large teams.  The Yellow Jackets are one of those teams bidding for one of the final five at-large spots.  The NCAA Division III Playoff selection show will air on Sunday, November 14 live on ncaa.org.

Veterans Appreciation Day
BW will honor all Veterans in attendance at halftime as the BW Marching Band will salute all of the armed forces with the playing of their fight song.  All Veterans in attendance will be asked to rise and be recognized during each song.

Nationally Ranked
For the fifth straight week, BW is ranked in the D3football.com Poll. The Yellow Jackets enter this week's poll at 20 with 145 points. BW is also ranked for the second straight week in AFCA National Poll at 21 with 220 points.
