Football Closes Out Three Game Season Opening Road Trip, Takes on #3 Mount Union

Today's Contest: 
Today is the final game of a three-game season opening road trip and the second Ohio Athletic Conference game for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels to Alliance to take on defending OAC Champion and No. 3 nationally-ranked University of Mount Union. BW opened up OAC action last weekend with a 41-10 victory over Otterbein University.  Mount Union was idle last week after it opened the season with a 48-7 victory over Westminster (Pa.)

The Series: 
BW and Mount Union have met 58 times on the gridiron.  The Purple Raiders lead the all-time series by a margin of 36-21-1, including winning the last 25 contests. The series began in 1896 as the Yellow Jackets posted a 10-0 victory in Alliance.  The last BW win came in 1994 when it knocked off Mount Union by a final score of 23-10 in Alliance.  The last Yellow Jacket victory in Berea was in 1991 when they beat the Purple Raiders by a final score of 21-18.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert: 
Hilvert is in his fifth season at BW and has a record of  23-11 and OAC slate of 19-11. He is 89-37 in his 11th overall season and is 0-3 against Mount Union. 

Mount Union Head Coach Geoff Dart: 
Dart is in his second season at Mount Union and has a career record of 5-0 and an OAC record of  4-0.  This is his first meeting vs. Baldwin Wallace.

Last Meeting vs. MTU -- Sept. 21, 2019:
BW scored seven points on 215 yards passing and 50 yards rushing for 265 yards of total offense. Mount Union scored 45 points on 272 yards passing and 182 yards rushing for 454 yards of total offense.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets: 
In week two of the season, BW scored 41 points on 259 yards rushing and 95 yards passing for a 3354 yards of total offense. Otterbein scored 10 points on 136 yards passing and 54 yards rushing for 190 yards of total offense.

BW Leaders: 
Offensively, junior Academic All-OAC quarterback Keagan Armitage (Ashland) has completed 27 of 42 passes for 298 yards with one touchdown.  Junior All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) leads the OAC and is 10th in NCAA Division III with 270 yards on 47 carries. Murray, Jr. is also tied for first in the NCAA with seven touchdowns. Senior wideout Darius Stokes (Canton/GlenOak) leads the receiving corps and is fourth in the OAC in yards with 148 yards and is tied for seventh in OAC with 10 catches.  Defensively, senior Academic All-OAC linebacker Nick Pankow (Medina) and tops the OAC with 22 tackles and is tied for first with two quarterback sacks. Junior linebacker Mason Levasseur (Panama City, Fla./South  Walton) is second on the squad and tied for fourth in league with 17 stops.

Scouting the Purple Raiders:
In week one of the season, Mount Union  scored 48 points on 344 yards passing and 208 yards rushing for 552 yards of total offense.  Westminster scored seven points on 148 yards passing and three yards rushing for 151 yards of total offense.

Mount Union Leaders: 
Offensively, junior All-OAC quarterback Braxton Plunk has completed 29 of 38 passes for 345 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.  Senior All-OAC running back Josh Petruccelli leads the ground game with 97 yards on 15 carries with four touchdowns.   Senior All-OAC wideout Wayne Ruby, Jr. leads the receiving corps with eight catches for 119 yards.  Defensively, senior defensive back Jesse Vail tops the team with eight stops.
