No. 3 Baseball Comes Back to Take Down Stevens (N.J.)

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated the Stevens (N.J.) Institute of Technology by a score of 4-3 in a non-conference game at Lawnwood Complex Field #2.

BW (6-2) only needed five hits to answer Stevens' (6-1) three-run second allowing them to take the lead in the bottom of the frame and following it with seven innings of shutout defense.

Scoring Plays

  • Bottom 2nd - Junior center fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) answered back for BW with an RBI single to left
  • Bottom 2nd - Junior designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) hit a sac fly to make it a one-run game
  • Bottom 2nd - Senior third baseman Nick Clark singled to center field
  • Bottom 2nd - Marousek scored on a past ball to give the Brown and Gold the lead

At the Plate

  • Clark and Kilbane each went 1-for-2 with an RBI
  • Sophomore second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) recorded one hit, one run, and one walk
  • Marousek tallied one hit, one RBI, and scored the go-ahead run
  • Junior shortstop Noah English (Perrysburg) also finished 1-for-2 with two walks and a run

On the Mound

  • Freshman right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) gave up only three runs on five hits in four innings pitched while also punching out five batters
  • Sophomore left-hander Carson Collins (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's) earned the win after throwing 4.1 innings of relief where he struck out three and allowed only three hits
  • Senior right-hander Matt Sabin (Mentor) came in with the bases loaded and one down in the ninth and struck out the last two batters of the game to get the save
