BEREA, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference Champion Baldwin Wallace University baseball team closed out the 2024 season in the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament as it fell to Catholic (D.C.) University by a final score of 9-7 on Fisher Field.
Catholic (32-13), who is the second seed, advances to an elimination game against the loser between Adrian (Mich.) College and Penn State Behrend College. BW (36-10), who the top seed, ends its 2024 campaign.
The Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on eight hits as they plated two runs in the first on the blast by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), one in the second, three in the fourth and one in the ninth. The Cardinals scored nine runs on 15 hits as they pushed three runs across the plate in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth and four in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Clark went 3-for-4 with a homerun, two runs scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs)
- Freshman All-OAC designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) went 2-for-4 with a run scored
- Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Noah English (Perrysburg) went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks
- Sophomore shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) went 1-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBIs
- Freshman pinch hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass. / Worcester Academy) went 1-for-1 with an RBI
On the Mound
- Junior All-OAC right hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Winward School) got the start and the no decision as he allowed five runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched
- Freshman All-OAC righty Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) did not allow a run or hit in a third of an inning pitched
- Senior All-OAC right hander Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) suffered the loss as he allowed four runs on five hits with a strikeout in an inning pitched
- Senior Academic All-OAC righty Matt Sabin (Mentor) did not allow a run or hit in two innings pitched
