No. 3 Baseball Scores Six Straight to Beat North Central (Ill.)

ADRIAN, Mich. - The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team xxx North Central (Ill.) College by a score of 9-5 in a neutral site non-conference game at Nicolay Field.

BW (12-3) was held to two hits until the sixth inning where the Yellow Jackets got the scoring started with three runs. North Central (4-10) answered back with five straight of their own in the seventh before the Yellow Jackets could score another five runs in the bottom of the frame and an insurance run in the eighth.

Scoring Plays

  • Bottom 6th - Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) homered over the right field fence for his first round-tripper of the season
  • Bottom 6th - Junior designated hitter Joey Marousek (North Royalton) had a pinch-hit groundout for his third straight game with an RBI
  • Bottom 6th - Senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville/St. Edward) hit an RBI single to right
  • Bottom 7th - Freshman utilityman Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) recorded his first collegiate hit and RBI with a single to left
  • Bottom 7th - Junior right fielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) singled to left to add another RBI on his big week
  • Bottom 7th - Marousek collected a hit in his eighth straight game to drive in another run 
  • Bottom 7th - Sophomore center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) singled up the middle
  • Bottom 7th - Sophomore second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for another RBI
  • Bottom 8th - Gelpi hit an RBI double

At the Plate

  • Gelpi capped off the week going 3-for-5 with two RBI for a total of nine hits and six RBI over the past four games
  • Clark went 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, and a steal
  • Mohnickey Jr. also added two hits with an RBI

On the Mound

  • Sophomore right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) stayed hot after throwing six scoreless innings allowing only four hits with six strikeouts
  • Senior right-hander Matt Sabin (Mentor) pitched a third of an inning as he surrendered three hits and no earned runs
  • Freshman right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) earned his third win of the season, a team best, after giving up only one hit and striking out one in 2.2 innings of relief
