No. 2 Baseball Blows Past Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The No. 2 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Bluffton University by a score of 15-7 in a non-conference game at Memorial Field.

After meeting in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic earlier this season, BW (16-3, 2-0 OAC) wasted no time getting on the board in the second game of their season series with Bluffton (6-12) thanks to an early run in the first inning and a six-run second. The Brown and Gold grew their lead with a two-run fifth and their second six-run inning of the day in the sixth.

Scoring Summary

  • Top 1st - Junior designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) stayed hot with an RBI single
  • Top 2nd - Sophomore shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) knocked in another run with a one-out double
  • Top 2nd - Sophomore second baseman Jace Druschel (Tampa, Fla./George Steinbrenner) collected his first RBI back from injury
  • Top 2nd - Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) hit his second career grand slam and second homer of the season to put the Yellow Jackets up big
  • Top 5th - Senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville/St. Edward) hit a sac fly to center
  • Top 5th - Terzola added another RBI with a single
  • Top 6th - Freshman left fielder Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) made it back-to-back two-hit games after driving in another BW run
  • Top 6th - Sophomore center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) added a new career-high two RBI
  • Top 6th - Terzola came up with his third hit and third RBI to put the Brown and Gold up by 10
  • Top 6th - Junior right fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) tripled to score two

At the Plate 

  • Terzola finished 4-for-5 tying a career-high in hits and in RBI with three
  • Mohnickey Jr. went a perfect 3-for-3 for his first three-hit game of the season 
  • Clark led the team with four RBI with his bases loaded bomb
  • Ritlinger-Nirider finished with a statline of two hits, two RBI, and a team-high three runs scored

On the Mound

  • Freshman right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) got the starting nod and notched a career-high six strikeouts through four innings allowing only two runs on four hits
  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference right-hander Dylan Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) threw two innings in which he allowed one run on two hits and struck out two
  • Senior right-hander Drew Schaly (Ashland) threw one perfect inning with two strikeouts
