No. 3 Baseball Stings Adrian (Mich.)

ADRIAN, Mich. - The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Adrian (Mich.) College by a score of 15-5 in a non-conference game at Nicolay Field.

BW (11-3) batted through the lineup in the first inning for four runs and never looked back as the Brown and Gold scored four in the third, three in the fourth, and one in each of the last four frames to tie a season-best in runs while holding Adrian (7-5) quiet despite 12 hits on the day.

Scoring Plays

  • Top 1st - Junior second baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) doubled to start a four-run first
  • Top 1st - Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) hit a two-run single to right
  • Top 1st - Junior right fielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) added another RBI with a single up the middle
  • Top 3rd - Sophomore shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) singled and advanced on a Bulldogs error to drive in another run
  • Top 3rd - Junior left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) grounded out to score a runner on third 
  • Top 3rd - Senior first baseman Max Anastasio (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) hit a sacrifice fly to left
  • Top 4th - Another BW run scored on an error off a batted ball by Gelpi
  • Top 4th - Freshman catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) added another sac fly to center
  • Top 4th - Sophomore center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) recorded his first collegiate RBI with a double
  • Top 6th - Marousek grabbed his team-leading 13th RBI of the season on a double to right
  • Top 7th - Junior designated hitter Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) flied out to right to drive in another run for the Brown and Gold
  • Top 8th - Ritlinger-Nirider scored on a wild pitch
  • Top 9th - Gelpi hit an RBI triple to right falling just a homer short of the cycle

At the Plate

  • Gelpi had a career-best four hits and three RBI in six trips to the plate while adding a stolen base
  • Sophomore designated hitter Trent Bucy (Eastlake/Eastlake North) went 2-for-3 with a walk
  • Ritlinger-Nirider made it two straight two-hit games after hitting a single and a double
  • Marousek, Clark, and Terzola each added two RBI on the day

On the Mound

  • Senior right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) got his second win of the season after throwing five innings and striking out five batters
  • Freshman right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) was called in to close the final four innings allowing only two runs on four hits with two strikeouts
