BEREA, Ohio - The No. 2 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Penn State University Behrend by a score of 19-3 in a non-conference game at Fisher Field.
After originally being scheduled to play Hiram College today, BW (19-3) scheduled a last-minute game with Penn State Behrend (10-4) in which the Yellow Jackets scored each of the first seven innings including a three-homer inning in the third to combine for a season-high 19 runs.
Scoring Summary
- Bottom 1st - Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) hit a sacrifice fly for his first RBI of the day
- Bottom 1st - Senior first baseman Max Anastasio (Chesterbrook, Pa/Conestoga) was safe on a fielder's choice and drove in another run
- Bottom 1st - Freshman designated hitter Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) singled down the line to put the Yellow Jackets up 3-0
- Bottom 2nd - Junior designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) singled up the middle
- Bottom 2nd - Sophomore left fielder Trent Bucy (Eastlake/Eastlake North) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded
- Bottom 2nd - Anastasio hit a two-run single single to right
- Bottom 3rd - Clark hit his third homer in four games to drive in two
- Bottom 3rd - Bucy went back-to-back with a homer to left center
- Bottom 3rd - Gordon hit his first collegiate dinger to wrap a three-homer inning for the Brown and Gold
- Bottom 4th - Junior designated hitter Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) had a pinch-hit RBI single
- Bottom 5th - Kilbane tripled off the left field wall to score two more for BW
- Bottom 6th - Sophomore second baseman Jace Druschel (Tampa, Fla./George Steinbrenner) hit a sac-fly to left
- Bottom 6th - Junior right fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) singled to left for the Yellow Jackets' 17th run
- Bottom 7th - Freshman utilityman Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) doubled to left
- Bottom 7th - Zinn drove in his second run of the day thanks to a single up the middle
At the Plate
- Marousek finished with three hits along with three runs scored, an RBI, and his team-leading 16th stolen base today in the leadoff spot
- Gordon went 2-for-2 in his first career start and finished with three RBI and a run scored
- Clark and Anastasio each added three RBI tying a game-best
- Kilbane also collected two hits to improve to a .405 average on the season which currently puts him fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference
- Zinn and West each went 2-for-3 as well with two and one RBI, respectively
On the Mound
- Senior right-hander Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Baron Collier) got the starting nod and the win as he struck out three batters and allowed only three hits in three innnings
- Freshman right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) threw an inning where he allowed three runs on one hit
- Sophomore left-hander Nolan Kellicker (Dover) made his season pitching debut where he allowed one hit in one inning
- Sophomore left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) struck out one in his one inning of work and allowed two hits
- Sophomore left-fielder Carson Collins (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph's) allowed two hits and tallied one strikeout in one inning pitched
- Senior All-OAC right-hander Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) threw a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout
- Freshman right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) closed out the victory with a perfect ninth inning
