No. 3 Baseball Advances to OAC Tournament Championship After Caging Cardinals in Game Three Victory

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 3 nationally ranked and top-seeded Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated second-seeded Otterbein University in game three of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament by a final score of 5-4 on Fisher Field. 

BW (35-7) was led by senior utility player Joey Marousek (North Royalton) as he notched two runs, including the game-winner at the bottom of the seventh inning. The Yellow Jackets were also led by senior infielder Nick Clark (Willowick / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville / St. Edward) and sophomore outfielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) as they each tallied a run throughout the duration of the game.

Scoring Summary

Bottom 1st - Junior third baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township / Olmsted Falls) reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second, RBI; Clark advanced to third on a throwing error by shortstop, scored, unearned; Marousek scored.

Bottom 4th - Freshman utility player Colin West (Westborough, Mass. / Worcester Academy) singled up the middle, RBI; Mohnickey scored.

Bottom 6th - Freshman third baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) doubled down the left field line, RBI; Ritlinger-Nirider scored.

Bottom 7th Kilbane grounded out to third base, RBI; Marousek scored, unearned.

At the Plate

  • Kilbane led the way with two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Marousek and Ritlinger-Nirider both went 2-4. 
  • Gordon and West both notched a hit and an RBI.

On the Mound

  • Freshman right-handed pitcher Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) pitched for four innings with four strike outs where he held the Cardinals to zero runs and a single hit.
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif. / Windward School) pitched for four innings with two strike outs, allowing nine hits and four runs.

The top-seeded Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, May 11 for the OAC Tournament Championship. BW will play the winner of Game Five at 12:00 p.m. on the Fisher Field.
