Women's Indoor Track and Field Places Fourth at Annual Mid-February Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team placed fourth at the annual Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dilliard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

BW finished fourth of 12 teams with 80 points. Point Park (Pa.) University was the champion with 96 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior sprinter and jumper Rachel Holowecky (Amherst/Firelands), freshman thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and senior Lyndsey Armstrong (Astabula/Geneva) as they each won an event. Holowecky won the high jump event with a mark of four feet and nine inches and was ninth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.7 seconds. Roberts won the shot put event with a career-best throw of 39'11.5'' and finished in eighth place in the weight throw with a mark of 39'10.5". Armstrong set a career-best in the 55-meter hurdles during the prelims with a time of 8.68 seconds and earned a first place finish with a time of 8.72 seconds in the finals.  

In addition, sophomore Grace Nemeth (Medina) came in second place with a career-best time of 7.55 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Senior sprinter Jasmine Moore (Cleveland Heights) came in sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.74, eighth place in the 200-meter dash with a finish of 28.2, and 15th in the 55-meter dash with a career-best time of 8.07 seconds. Freshman distance runner Katie Fowler (Mount Vernon) placed fourth in the 500-meter run with a career-best time of 1:26.2. Freshman distance runner Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.) finished ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 20:17.64. Freshman sprinter Beth Plas (LaGrange/Keystone) earned 10th place in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 28.32 and finished 12th in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.97 seconds. Junior sprinter Rachel Tucker (Canton/McKinley) placed 14th in the 55-meter dash with a career-best time of 8.05 seconds.

In the field events, junior thrower Madeline Ziccardi (Cuyahoga Falls), senior thrower Natasha Thomas (Cleveland/Holy Name), junior thrower Madison Phillips (St. Paul) and freshman thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Western Reserve) took third, fourth, sixth and ninth in the weight throw. Ziccardi recorded a toss of 43'3.75", Thomas earned a mark of 43'0.25", Philips had a throw of 40'6.75'' and Buckhannon recorded a mark of 39'9.25''. Phillips also earned a 12th place finish in the shot put with a toss of 30'11''. Sophomore jumper Jessica Edwards (East Allegheny Pa.) finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 30'9'' and  ninth in the long jump with a leap of 14'4''. 

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 10 when it travels to Westerville for the All-Ohio Indoor Championships hosted by Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation Center starting at 12 p.m.
