Women's Track and Field Wins 48th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team finished first in the 48th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW finished first of 11 teams with a team score of 116. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by, senior All-OAC thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve) and junior throwers Madeline Ziccardi (Cuyahoga Falls) and junior Madison Phillips (Norwalk/St. Paul).   Clouse won the discus with a toss of 133' 5'',   Ziccardi finished first in the hammer throw with a career-best throw of 154' 7'' and Phillips won the javelin throw with a mark of 106' 7.5''.  

Along with Ziccardi in the hammer throw, freshman thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) took third place with a career-best throw of 142' 7''. Behind Clouse in the discus, Buckhannon placed fourth with a throw of 115' 9'' and freshman thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) placed fifth with a mark of 115' 5''.

Senior hurdler Lyndsey Armstrong (Ashtabula/Geneva) and freshmen distance runners Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View) Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) each earned second place finishes in their respective races.   Armstrong placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 15.26 seconds, Brennan finished second in the 800-meter run with a finish of 2:18.23 and Pendola placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best finish of 4:55.48. Freshman distance runner Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.) also finished 10th in the 1,500-meter run behind Pendola with a career-best time of 5:15.81. Sophomore sprinter Grace Nemeth (Medina) earned a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 26.29 seconds. 

In relay action the team of Armstrong, sophomore sprinter Grace Nemeth (Medina), junior sprinter Rachel Tucker (Canton/McKinley), and freshman sprinter Beth Plas (LaGrange/Keystone)  finished third  in the 4x1000-meter relay with a time of 51.92 seconds.

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29 when it travels to Muskingum for the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on the Johnson Family Track.
