All-American Winters Garners Eighth Career OAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Accolade
BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University senior two-time indoor All-American Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her efforts at home opening Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.
 

Winters garners her eighth career OAC Indoor Athlete of the Week honor after winning three events and setting one school record last Friday night.   She won the high jump with a school record leap of 5 feet and 8.5 inches, the 200-meter in a time of 25.68 seconds and the 55-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 8.25 seconds.  Winters won five consecutive OAC indoor accolades last season and earned two other others as a sophomore in 2014.

Last week, she was selected as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field National Athlete of the Week.

This season, Winters ranks among in the top five of NCAA Division III in four categories.  She is first in the long jump with a mark of 18'11.25", tied for first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.88 seconds, second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.68 seconds and tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 5'8.5".

In her illustrious career, Winters has been named as a two-time USTFCCCA Great Lakes Division III Region Most Valuable Field Athlete as well as the USTFCCCA Division III Great Lakes Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2015 and the Ohio Athletic Conference Fred Razik Indoor Sprinter of the Year Award recipient in 2014. She is a seven-time OAC Indoor Champion, including the two-time defending champion in the 60-meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump.

Winters owns eight indoor school records as well as two Harrison Dillard Track indoor marks. The indoor school records are an in the 55-meter dash, the 55-meter hurdles, the 60-meter dash, the 60-meter hurdles the 200-meter dash, the high jump, the long jump and the pentathlon.  The Harrison Dillard Track records are in the 55-meter dash, which is the school-record as well, and in the long jump.  In addition, she holds three All-Ohio Division III Indoor Championships records in the 60-meter hurdles, the long jump and the pentathlon.

The Yellow Jacket men's and women's indoor track and field teams are back in action this Saturday, February 6 when they travel to Granville to compete in the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.  

On Sunday, February 7, Winters and the rest of the BW multi-event athletes will compete in the All-Ohio Division III Combined Events Championships also hosted by Denison in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.
