Winters Sets OAC and Two School Records to Lead Women's Indoor Track and Field to Fifth Place at OAC Championships

MARIETTA, Ohio – Senior indoor All-American multi-event athlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) set two Baldwin Wallace University records and one Ohio Athletic Conference record to lead the women's indoor track and field team to a fifth place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Marietta College inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

The sixth nationally Yellow Jackets finished fifth of 10 teams with 82.5 points.  The University of Mount Union was the champion for the fifth straight year with 176.5 points.  

The top three individuals and the top three relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

Winters won two OAC Championships in the high jump and 55-meter hurdles.   Winters won the high jump for the third consecutive year with an OAC and school-record leap of five feet and 8.75 inches, which is tied for the top performance in Division III this season.  She won the 55-meter dash in a school-record time of 8.07 seconds. Winters has now earned eight All-OAC indoor accolades.

In addition, senior indoor All-American and All-OAC thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenston) was the named the Phil Gordon OAC Outstanding Female Field Athlete for the second straight year as she won both throwing events.   Today, Gallavan won the shot put with a mark of 46'3.25"after winning the weight throw with an OAC-record toss on Friday.  She has now earned six All-0AC indoor accolades.

Junior jumper Erin Kasper (Amherst/Marion Steele) finished third in the high jump and seventh in the triple jump.  Kasper earned her first All-OAC accolade in the high jump with a mark of 5'3.25" and was seventh in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 35'4.75". 

Senior jumper Abby Snow (Massillon/Jackson) earned her first career All-OAC indoor accolade as she finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 35'10.5".   Junior thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve) finished fourth in the shot put with a career-best mark of 40'. Senior sprinter Kelsey Nemeth (Medina) placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.70.

In relay action, the 4x200-meter relay team of Kelsey Nemeth, sophomore Carlynn Arthur (Danville), freshman Grace Nemeth (Medina) and Armstrong took fourth in a time of 1:48.40.  The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Maeve Christie (Lakewood), Arthur, sophomore Bailee D'Amore (McDonald) and junior Jasmine Moore (Cleveland Heights) finished eighth in a time of 4:28.53.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 5 when select individuals will travel to Ada to compete in the Polar Bear Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 10 a.m.

The NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field National Championships will be contested on March 11 and 12 in Grinnell, Iowa at the Bear Recreation and Athletic Center on the campus of Grinnell College.
