Cole, Phipps and Gallavan Garner USTFCCCA Indoor National Accolades

NEW ORLEANS – Baldwin Wallace University Coordinator of Cross Country and Track and Field & Head Track and Field Coach Matthew Cole, Assistant Track and Field Coach Kevin Phipps '11 and senior two-time NCAA Division III Champion and three-time indoor All-American thrower Kim Gallavan(Auburn Township/Kenston) have honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with national honors.

Cole
, who is in his first season, was named the Women's Indoor National Coach of the year after guided the women's indoor track and field team to its first-ever NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship.  He took three members of the squad to Grinnell, Iowa last weekend and brought the trophy home to Berea.  Cole, a native of Ada, Ohio and a graduate of the University of Mount Union, and the team earned three individual titles and six All-American honors.

Phipps
, who is in his fifth season as the throws coach at his alma mater, was named the Women's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year after he coached one individual to two NCAA titles.  The native of Patsakala, Ohio, also guided one men's performer to a runner-up finish in the weight throw and the team earned three All-American throwing honors.

Gallavan
, who caps off her impressive indoor season, was named the Women's National Field Athlete of the Year after winning the NCAA Division III title in the shot put and weight throw.

In addition to this award, she has been recognized both nationally and at the conference level with several other honors.  Gallavan was named the USTFCCCA Women's Field Outstanding Performer of the NCAA Division III Championships earlier this week, the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Women's Field Athlete of the Year and to the All-Great Lakes Region team for the second straight season.  She was selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Phil Gordon Indoor Outstanding Female Field Athlete for the second consecutive year after winning both throwing events at the OAC Indoor Championships.

The BW men's and women's outdoor track and field teams open the 2106 season on Saturday, March 19 when they travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to compete in the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Early Bird Invitational at 12:30 p.m.
