Many longtime Baldwin Wallace University athletics enthusiasts claim that Wynn Hawkins '58 may have been the most gifted all-around athlete to ever grace the Berea-based campus.

Hawkins played and started on the basketball court for three years at BW, but was unable to play his best sport, baseball, for the College because of a professional contract with the Cleveland Indians. He participated in the Indians' minor league camp throughout college and was on the farm team in 1954. He was known for having an outstanding glove, fleet feet and was a solid base hitter.
 
On the basketball court, Wynn was a letterman and was named a Little All-American. He once was BW's all-time career-scoring leader and held BW's fieldhouse single-game scoring record and field goal records. He was named to the Greater Cleveland Basketball All-Star Team and the 1956 American Press All-Ohio third-team.

In 1960, he pitched for the Cleveland Indians and went on to work for the Indians in the sales department, as a scout and as a traveling secretary. He also was a guest columnist for the Plain Dealer in 1969 prior to a career with General Motors.
