Hugh "Hoy" Arnold '40 graduated from BW in 1940 and was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Arnold was recognized for his prowess on the football field even before he arrived at Baldwin-Wallace, leading the Berea Braves to a conference championship. He then was quarterback at B-W and was known for his passing ability. During his college career, he earned four letters and Most Valuable Player honors. Arnold also played basketball for two years and lettered one year in that sport. On campus, he was president of his freshman class as well as his senior class. A member of Lambda Chi Alpha, he served the fraternity as president and also was a member of the Interfraternity Council.

Arnold joined the Air Force after graduating from B-W and graduated from Kelley Field in Texas as a second lieutenant colonel and served as a squadron commander with the Eighth Air Force in England during World War II. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service to the United States.

After leaving the service, he was pilot for United Airlines and American Airlines, retiring in 1964 to Ft. Lauderdale. Arnold passed away in 1979 at the age of 59.
