Joe Mackey '95 was a standout four-year letterman and three-year starter at point guard for the BW basketball team. He served as a team captain for two years and was the 1995 Kenneth Steingass Award winner as BW's Male Athlete of the Year. In 1995, he was a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection.

Mackey led the Yellow Jackets to three straight OAC Final Four appearances and to the NCAA Division III "Sweet 16". As a senior, he received the Cleveland Cavaliers Lenny Wilkens Award as the "Best Player in Cleveland Area Colleges". Mackey also was a member of the BW 1,000-point club.

Following graduation, Mackey went on to earn his Master's of education degree in 2000 from Marygrove College. He became head coach of the Brunswick High School boy's basketball team and was named the Medina County Coach of the Year in 2001. During the 2009-10 season, Mackey reached a milestone with his 200th career victory.
