Dan Newman '87 graduated from BW in 1987 and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
Newman was a three-time All-American pole vaulter (once indoors and twice outdoors) who earned four letters in track and one in soccer. He was a multiple OAC champion both indoors and outdoors. In 1987, Newman won the OAC outdoor title and then vaulted a school-record 16’1.25” to place second at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet and claim All-America honors. Newman also placed third in Division III at the 1985 and 1987 NCAA indoor championship meets. He was the BW Most Valuable Jumper three times (1985-87) and competed in other jumping events. In the classroom, Newman was a scholar-athlete who earned Dean’s List honors during 10 of 11 quarters and was a member of a number of academic honoraries.
