BEREA, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's tennis beat Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg University, 7-2, today (Tuesday, April 17, 2012) at the "Pop" Collins Courts.

With its win, B-W is now 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. Heidelberg is now 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.

B-W gained an early lead after sweeping doubles competition and won four of six singles matches to claim the win.

In doubles action, the number one tandem of junior Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) and sophomore Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) won by a 9-7 score. Number two team of senior Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and junior Danielle Rueger (Ashland) won by a 8-3 score and the No.3. duo of sophomore Whitney Yoder (Medina) and senior Emily Brown (Vermilion) won by an 8-2 score.

In singles play, junior No.1 player Mittler won by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0, Greene won at No.2 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1, Yoder won at No.5 by the scores of 7-6 (7-4) and 7-6 (7-5) and freshman Rachel Bertrand (Avon) won at No.6 with the scores of 6-2 and 6-0. 

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, April 21 when it travels to Ada, Ohio to play first place Ohio Northern University in an OAC match at 1:00 p.m. B-W ends the regular season at home next week with OAC matches against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m. and in the first match of a doubleheader versus Marietta College on Saturday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m.
