Yellow Jacket Women Lose to Division II Walsh

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's tennis team lost to NCAA Division II Walsh University, 9-0, this morning (Tuesday, March 6, 2012) in the fourth match of its Annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Yellow Jacket women also play Division II Shawnee State University later this evening at 6:30 p.m.

With its victory, Walsh improved to 5-2 overall. B-W is now 3-6 overall.

The Yellow Jackets, who have won three of the past four OAC titles and advanced to three of the past four NCAA Division III National Tournaments, dropped all three doubles matches. The Cavaliers stayed hot and won all six singles matches to round out the match.

Despite their losses in singles, junior No.1 player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) has 34 career wins to rank 23rd all-time and senior Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington), who did not play this morning due to an injury, is tied for 12th with 47 victories. Greene needs just one more win to tie Jen Gerlach (1999-2001) and Alyssa Trampert (2006-2009) for 11th. Mittler needs one more win to move into 22nd place and tie Audrey Susnik (1992-95).

With a win this evening, B-W 28th-year Head Coach Jack Bethlenfalvy would win his 317th career match.  He is the winningest women's tennis coach in OAC and Ohio collegiate tennis history.  Bethlenfalvy has a 317-205 career mark heading into tonight's match versus Shawnee State.

The B-W women are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7 when it plays 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament participant Elizabethtown (Pa.) College at 8:00 a.m. and then ends its trip with a 2:30 p.m. match versus Alvernia (Pa.) College.
