Women's Swimming and Diving Drops a Pair of Non-Conference Matchups

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team drops a pair of non-conference matchups over NCAA Division II Notre Dame College and NCAA Division III Frostburg State University in the Mellen Pool inside Keller Center.

This morning while en route to the meet, the charter bus transporting the BW Swimming and Diving Team was struck by a stolen vehicle during a police pursuit. Fairview Park police department was in high pursuit of the stolen vehicle that collided with the charter bus that was carrying our student athletes. Members of local law enforcement and first responders cleared our student-athletes prior to leaving the scene to continue onto their meet. No one from Baldwin Wallace was injured in the crash.

BW (8-8) fells to Notre Dame to a final score of 137-123 and Frostburg, 165-96. 

The Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Sophomore All-OAC Mallory Dondorfer (Mentor) placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:04.46 and finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time 1:05.58 and second in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:05.71
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:33.82 and finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:43.77
  • Junior Kate Wells (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:11.57
  • Senior Natalie Kehoe (Parma / Padua Franciscan) placed fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 33.78 seconds
  • Junior Tia Reed (Bluffton, S.C.) finished second in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 33.32 seconds and second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:11.96
  • Junior Lauren Slife (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.47 seconds and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.43 seconds
  • Senior Aubrey Syron (Dayton / Archbishop Alter) placed second in the 50-yard buttefly in a time of 28.47 seconds

BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of WellsRatinoSyron and freshman Morgan Ingalls (Erie, Pa./ Harbor Creek) placed third in a time of 1:53.22 
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of RatinoReedDonforfer and Slife placed third in a time of 2:00.10

The Yellow Jackets are back in action at the four-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, February 15-18 at the Ocasek Natatorium in University of Akron. Preliminary action begins each day at 10 a.m. with finals to be held each night at 6 p.m.
