BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team captured the Fredonia (N.Y.) State University Blue Devil Invitational title and the Yellow Jacket women placed third at the three-day meet held from Friday to Sunday, December 5-7.
The BW men totaled 890.5 points and the women finished with 462.
On the final day of competition, sophomore two-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) took first on the three-meter diving board with 454.20 points overall. He finished second on Saturday on the one-meter board.
Sophomore Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/Cathedral) picked up his second win in as many days with a first-place finish in the 400-yard IM (4:31.46). Senior Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) concluded a two-win weekend with a second-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.20).
On the women's side, sophomore Kelley Likes (Huron/Sandusky Perkins) and freshman Jessica McClarren (Bucyrus/Senior) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:06.18 and 1:06.37. Senior captain Kelsie Baker (Dover) also turned in a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.45).
The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers are off from competition until their annual Winter Break Training Trip to the State of Florida from January 1-11, 2009. While in Florida, BW competes against Florida Southern University on Jan. 10. The next home meet is on Friday, Jan. 16 when BW hosts Cleveland cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University in the Natatorium of the Lou Higgins Center at 6:00 p.m.
