Yellow Jacket Men 3rd, Women 4th, After Day One of 2009 OAC Swimming and Diving Championships

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team sits in third place and the women are in fifth at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

ONU's men totaled 84 points on day one and were followed by John Carroll (50), Baldwin Wallace (46), Mount Union (34) and Wilmington (21). The Polar Bears captured first place in all five events of the evening.  

ONU's women totaled 98 points on day one and were followed by John Carroll (54), Mount Union (36), Wilmington (21) and Baldwin Wallace (18). The Polar Bear women captured first place in all five events of the evening.  

Yellow Jacket junior Vincent Colwell (Parma/Normandy) brought home BW's first All-OAC honor of the evening with a third place (21.50) showing in the 50-yard free. The Jackets' 400-yard medley relay team also earned all-conference honors as the team of Colwell, sophomores Ryan Musille (Canton/GlenOak) and Matt Diamond (Ashtabula/Lakeside) and senior Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) finished second in a school-record time of 3:36.54.

The men's 200 free relay team of ColwellSonnenbergMike Demitrieff (Parma/Normandy) and Musillealso finished in a new school-record time of 1:26.79. Sonnenberg also broke his own school mark in the 500-free with a time of 4:48.48.

The women's team will enter action tomorrow looking to build on its standings as it sits just three points behind Wilmington for fourth place.

Day two prelims begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow with finals slated to start to 6 p.m. The meet wraps up on Saturday with start times once again at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, please visit the official tournament website at www.bw.edu/athletics/sd/09oacchampionships.
