Baldwin Wallace Men's and Women's Swim Teams Lose to Ohio Northern in Ada

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Ohio Northern University Natatorium inside the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio.  The Yellow Jacket men fell to the Polar Bears by a score of 147-96 and the women were defeated 198-43.

Highlighting the day for the men was junior Vince Colwell (Parma / Normandy) in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.46 seconds.  Sophomores Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas / Cathedral) clocked a 4:29.09 in the 400-yard individual medley and Mike Demitrieff (Parma / Normandy) finished the 200-yard butterfly in first place with a time of 2:05.59.  Senior Nick Gattozzi (Strongsville) finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.69.  Sophomore All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) placed first in the three-meter dive with 303.90 points.

The women's team had no individual winners.  The top finish came from freshman diver Shannon Firestine(Rocky River) in the one-meter dive with 179.85 points.

The BW swimmers and divers are back in action next Friday, January 23 when they host traditional rival Hiram College at 6:00 p.m. in the Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea. In addition, the Yellow Jackets host their final home meet of the 2008-2009 season on Saturday, Jan. 24 against OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Seniors' Day in Berea at 1:00 p.m.
