Baldwin Wallace University Men Second, Women Fifth at 2009 OAC Championships

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team sits in second place and the women fifth after the second of three days of competition on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium. The final day of competition is tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 21.

Ohio Northern University's men team has totaled 196 points and is followed by host Baldwin Wallace University (133), John Carroll University (111), Mount Union College (86) and Wilmington College (47).  The Polar Bear women's team has totaled 211 points through two days of competition and is followed by JCU (139), Mt. Union (121), Wilmington (58) and BW (44).

BW's men's 200-yard medley relay team picked up the first win of the meet for a team other than ONU as the quartet of junior Vince Colwell (Parma/ Normandy) and sophomores Roman Koval (Parama/ Padua Franciscan)and Matt Diamond (Ashtabula/ Lakeside) and Ryan Musille finished in a school-record time of 1:36.64. Colwellalso went on to win the 100-yard backstroke with an OAC-record time of 53.81.

In addition, sophomore Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) turned in an All-OAC performance and set a school mark with a second-place finish of 4:20.87 in the 400-yard individual medley. Musille followed with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.38) and sophomore All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) placed second on the three-meter diving board. Senior Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) finished fifth in the 200 free with a school-record time of 1:45.52.

For the women, freshman Jessica McClarren (Bucyrus/Senior) placed sixth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:02.52 and seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.81). Senior Kelsie Baker (Dover) placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.50.
