BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Friday, January 23, 2009 at the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea, Ohio. The Yellow Jacket men defeated the Terriers, 149-82, but the women lost, 162-76, in a non-conference dual meet.
Highlighting the day for the men in were junior Vince Colwell (Parma/ Normandy), senior Nick Gattozzi (Strongsville), sophomore Matt Diamond (Ashtabula/ Lakeside) and senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference pick Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) in the 400-yard medley relay as they teamed to clock a time of 3:48.35.Colwell also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.60. In the 500-yard freestyle, Sonnenberg won with a time of 4:55.42. Gattozzi also took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.69. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, junior Jordan Irwin (Westerville/ Westerville South), Diamond, junior Mark Andrasek (Parma/ Normandy), and sophomore Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) finished first with a time of 3:24.67. Sophomore Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:37.41. Sophomore All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) placed first in the one-meter voluntary and optional dive with 195.65 and 313.45 points, respectively.
The women's team's top finisher was freshman Jessica McClarren (Bucyrus/ Senior) who won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:24.31
The BW swimmers and divers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, January 24 when they host OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Seniors' Day at 1:00 p.m. in the Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea.
