BW Swimmers and Divers Stand 1st and 3rd After First of Three-Day Fredonia (N.Y.) Meet

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team stands in first place of six teams and the women are third of five after the first day of the Fredonia State University Blue Devil Invitational in Fredonia, New York. Action continues on both Saturday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7.

The Yellow Jacket men have 144 points after the first day and the women have scored 82 points.

Highlighting the day for the men was a first-place finish for senior captain Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) in the 1650-yard freestyle. His time of 17:25.08 was over 18 seconds better than that of the second-place finisher. In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Ryan Musille (Canton/GlenOak) and junior Vince Colwell (Parma/Normandy) placed second and third, respectively, with times of 22.47 and 22.84.

For the women, freshman Danielle Miller (Van Wert) had BW's top finish with a sixth-place showing in the 1650 free with a time of 19:35.48.

Following the Fredonia State Meet, the Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers until their annual Winter Break Training Trip to the State of Florida from January 1-11, 2009. While in Florida, BW competes against Florida Southern University on Jan. 10. The next home meet is on Friday, Jan. 16 when BW hosts Cleveland cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University in the Natatorium of the Lou Higgins Center at 6:00 p.m.
