Wrestling Jumps to No. 5 in the NWCA Poll

BEREA, Ohio – The three-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team jumped to No. 5 in the fifth regular season National Wrestling Coaches Association Division lll poll released Wednesday.

BW (10-2, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) placed fifth at the NWCA National Duals, with at team record of 5-1, including three dual victories over top 25 teams: then 4th-ranked Ithica (N.Y) College, then 10th-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and then 6th-ranked University of Mount Union. The lone loss came against 11th-ranked Coe (Iowa) College.

Senior two-time All-American 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee), sophomore All-OAC 149-pounder remain nationally ranked in their respective weight classes, while senior All-OAC 184-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison) cracked the top ten, placing tenth. Arroyo dropped from the No. 2 spot to the No. 6 spot after a 5-1 weekend and sophomore All-OAC 149-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) stayed at the No. 5 spot after a perfect 6-0 weekend. Ransom landed at tenth after a 6-0 weekend and a 4-3 decision over the No. 1 wrestler in their respective weight class.

Augsburg (Minn.) University remained atop the rankings at No. 1, while Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University jumped to second and Wartburg (Iowa) College fell to third. Wabash (Ind.) College leaped into fourth, and BW rounds out the top five. Mount Union, the only other OAC team that is ranked, went from sixth to seventh.

BW is back in action on Saturday January, 12 when they compete in the Spartan Mat Classic, hosted by Manchester (Ind.) University. Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
