#5 Wrestling Team is Fifth at 33rd Summa Tournament

BEREA, Ohio – The fifth-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team placed fifth at the 33rd Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse on Seniors' Day.

BW (13-2) placed fifth of 15 teams with 71 points. NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) University won the team championship.

The Yellow Jackets had five place winners and were led by junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference 125-pounder Nicholas Berry (Laura/Dayton Carroll) earned a second place finsh. In addition, junior 141-pounder Aaron Kelly (Rocky River) and senior two-time All-OAC 197-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) each placed third, junior Academic All-OAC 149-pounder Nick Sbrocco (Perry) was fifth and freshman 285-pounder Parker Meaney (Ashtabula/Lakeside) was seventh.

With a win Friday, February 8 versus Ohio Northern University, BW will clinch a record fourth straight OAC title. The Yellow Jacket teams from 1971-73 and 2015-18 won three consecutive crowns. The match begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Higgins Center.

The Yellow Jackets enter the Ohio Northern match with three of its grapplers ranked in the Top-8 of their respective weight class in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll. They are senior two-time All-American Anthony Arroyo (Maumee), ranked fifth at 165 pounds, sophomore Stanley Bleich (Elyria/Elyria Catholic), fifth at 149 pounds, and junior Charlie Nash (Norwalk), seventh at 133 pounds.

Following its match versus Ohio Northern, BW will begin preparations to defend its NCAA Division III Central Region Championship on Feb. 22-23.
